he claims &#8220;before the Irish came<br \/>\nNow British people lost their jobs and bloody Turkish are there to blame&#8221;<br \/>\nI ask him how he knows that fact<br \/>\nhe said &#8220;because it&#8217;s true&#8221;<br \/>\nI ask him how he knows that fact<br \/>\nhe said &#8220;he read it in the news&#8221;<br \/>\n&#8220;Every time a Somalian comes here they take a job from us<br \/>\nThe mathematics one from one, from us to them it just adds up&#8221;<br \/>\nHe bites his cake he sips is brew and says again &#8220;he knows the spot<br \/>\nThe goddamn Caribbeans came and now good folk here don&#8217;t have jobs&#8221;<br \/>\nI ask him what was there before the goddamn Persian curtain shop<br \/>\nI show him architectures plans of empty goddamn plots of land<br \/>\nI show him the historic maps<br \/>\nA bit of sand, a barren land<br \/>\nThere was no goddamn shop before those Pakistanis came and planned<br \/>\nMan<br \/>\nI&#8217;m sick of crappy mathematics<br \/>\nCos I love a bit of sums<br \/>\nI spent three years into economics<br \/>\nAnd I geek out over calculus<br \/>\nAnd when I meet these paper claims<br \/>\nThat one of every new that came<br \/>\nTakes away ones daily wage<br \/>\nI desperately want to scream<br \/>\n&#8220;Your maths is stuck in primary&#8221;<br \/>\nCos some who comes here also spend<br \/>\nAnd some who comes here also lend<br \/>\nAnd some who comes here also tend<br \/>\nTo set up work which employs them<br \/>\nAnd all your balance sheets and trends<br \/>\nThey work with numbers not with men<br \/>\nAnd all this goddamn heated talk<br \/>\nIgnores the trade the Polish brought<br \/>\nIgnores the men they gave work to<br \/>\nNot plumbing jobs but further too<br \/>\nIgnores the guys they buy stock from<br \/>\nAccountants, builders, on and on<br \/>\nAnd I know it&#8217;s nice to have someone<br \/>\nTo blame our lack of jobs upon<br \/>\nBut immigrations not that plain<br \/>\nDespite the sums inside your brain<br \/>\nIs one for one, is him or you<br \/>\nis if he goes, they&#8217;ll employ you<br \/>\nCos sometimes one that comes makes two<br \/>\nAnd sometimes one can add three more<br \/>\nAnd sometimes two times two is much much more<br \/>\nThan four<br \/>\nAnd most times immigrants bring more<br \/>\nThan minuses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HollieMcNish | A poem about immigration, based on a guy I used to have to listen to when I worked in a clothes shop. http:\/\/youtu.be\/bJX5XHnONTI He said &#8220;those god damn Pakistanis and their goddamn corner shops Built a shop on every corner took our British workers jobs&#8221;
